I have been on Medicare for years. The question is, how would Medicare for All function? Would it be similar to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), or would it finally eliminate the for-profit healthcare system? Healthcare in America has reached a critical stage. Costs and care are out of control. In my opinion, we have no choice but to join the rest of the world in adopting a well-run universal healthcare system. For-profit healthcare is a prime example of runaway capitalism and is unsustainable. Here is a list of advantages of moving to a universal healthcare system: 01. 10% savings in administrative costs compared to for-profit systems. 02. Standardized costs for doctors and hospitals within specific locations across the country. 03. Comprehensive control of prescription drug costs for all medications, not just a limited number. 04. Elimination of out-of-pocket cost controls. 05. No limits on critical, life-saving care. 06. Support for old age and nursing care. 07. Inclusion of dental coverage. 08. Inclusion of vision coverage. 09. A redefinition of what is considered healthcare. 10. Reduced paperwork and administrative costs. 11. Improved overall health outcomes for Americans. 12. For-profit healthcare would remain unchanged. 13. For-profit and Medicare for All would compete against each other for members. 14. Systems would compete for members, bringing down costs. However, there are downsides to Medicare for All. Transitioning from a for-profit healthcare system to a well-run universal healthcare system is a significant change that has been discussed for many years. If it were easy, it would have already been accomplished. Some potential downsides include: 01. A major hit to the economy. 02. Concerns about employment. 03. Issues related to the stock market. 04. Questions about whether the government can effectively manage a well-run healthcare system. 05. A major impact on the pharmaceutical industry. 06. The need for standardization of fees for doctors, procedures, and hospital costs by geographical area within the country. 07. Ongoing debates about socialism vs. capitalism. To facilitate the transition, we should maintain the current for-profit healthcare system without modifications. We will create a model for Medicare for All and select a specific area of the country to test this model, which may take several years to perfect. Once we have refined the model, we can adjust Medicare to align with it. Additionally, we should provide all Americans with the option to choose between the for-profit system and the new Medicare for All model. This way, the American people can decide where they want to purchase their healthcare and how they wish to spend their money. Competition helps to keep costs down! The American people did a fantastic job with the midterm blue wave. Maybe, we need to do the same type of effort with Medicare for all!
