Everybody needs unconditional love. The problem is that most people have never truly experienced it. They’ve experienced love that had to be earned. Approval that disappeared when they failed. Friendships that lasted only while they were useful. Praise when they performed well—and judgment the moment they struggled. So when I coach someone, the transformation doesn’t begin with a technique, strategy, or motivational speech. It begins with unconditional love. It begins when someone realizes: I see you. I accept you. I believe in you. You don’t have to impress me, perform for me, or pretend to have everything figured out. That doesn’t mean I’ll agree with everything you do. Unconditional love isn’t unconditional approval. Real love tells the truth. Real love holds you accountable. Real love refuses to let you keep abandoning yourself. But you never have to earn your basic worth with me. When people finally feel safe enough to lower their defenses, they can stop protecting their identity and start honestly examining their life. They can admit where they’re hurting. They can face their mistakes without believing those mistakes define them. They can release the shame they’ve carried for years. They can finally grow. Sometimes the most powerful moment in coaching isn’t receiving brilliant advice. It’s experiencing, perhaps for the first time, what it feels like to be fully seen without being rejected. That experience alone can begin a transformation. Because when someone receives unconditional love, they slowly learn how to give it to themselves—and once they stop fighting themselves, an entirely different life becomes possible.
