Just because a philosophy helped you through a dark period does not mean that philosophy is optimal—or even true. Sometimes people discover a belief system during a painful or confusing chapter, and it gives them hope, structure, meaning, and emotional relief. That benefit is real. You may genuinely be happier and stronger because of it. But emotional relief is not proof of philosophical truth. A belief can help you survive a difficult season while still containing errors, blind spots, or ideas that are not universally beneficial. Many different philosophies, religions, and ideologies have helped people through suffering. They cannot all be completely correct simply because their followers experienced transformation. So appreciate what helped you. Be grateful for the strength, clarity, or hope it gave you. But continue examining it. Ask whether it makes you more honest, rational, humble, capable, and open to reality—or whether it simply gives you a comforting story that protects you from questioning your assumptions. Something can be helpful without being optimal. Something can give you hope without being true.
