SignalGate-My letter to my Senator Dear Senator Durbin, I’m writing today because I'm shocked and outraged over the incompetent and careless use of the Signal app to discuss highly classified military operations by Trump administration officials. The responsibility for this extraordinary breach of national security falls on the National Security Advisor Michael Waltz. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and top US officials Vice-President JD Vance and Marco Rubio. It happened on Signal, a popular chat app whose use for sharing classified information about military actions was referred to by multiple former senior intelligence officers as a "shocking risk to national security.” Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, whose lack of experience in this role makes him not only deeply unqualified but also a danger to our national security, as well as to the lives of those serving in our armed forces. As a former armed forces member, I know what a catastrophe it might have caused. Trump officials have all denied this, some while under oath, in front of Congress. A lawsuit has also been filed against Trump officials for potentially breaking record-keeping laws. Michael Waltz, a national security advisor, should know better than to set up an unsecured and unlawful line of communication. The responsibility was his. Now, the responsibility to safeguard out national security is yours. I call upon you to: demand the immediate resignations of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz (and); call for the resignations of Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and every other participant in the unsecured Signal chat (and); conduct congressional investigations into the use of an unsecured communication app by top Trump officials and their potential violation of record-keeping laws or the Espionage Act (and); move to impeach these Trump administration officials for their complete disregard of national security protocols if they fail to resign or get fired.
