North Star - May 2024 - Sheffield This is a great convention, one of the smaller Garricons in sheffield held at the garrison hotel - though they announced this year they are upping attendance maximums so there will be much more game space next time - Definitely check it out if you want a new con! https://northstarcon.org.uk/ Slot 1 Saturday Morning : GMed The Electric State This game ran fairly well, though I had problems with pacing and felt i could have kept a more exciting pace. The scenario needs some tweaking. Still all the players did spectacular work with their characters issues. It's definitely more about the journey and exploring the characters. All that was fun and I think I managed to resolve 2-3 of the characters stories. I rate the system but this kind game shines much more when it's with over a campaign or longer session play. Definitely would love to try that sometime. Thanks to my players Paul Lawrence, Dom Mooney, Steve Hampshire, Andrew Watson. Slot 2 Saturday Afternoon: Shadowun (Savage Worlds hack) - Train In Vein Thanks to Paul Lawrence for running this, they presented a story with lots of opportunity for the players to be inventive and create fun escapades - just as a Cyberpunk style caper should be. Plus the NPC vignettes were just awesome! Savage worlds is a more complex system than i like but when playing alongside professionals who know the game inside and out, this easy to play and had some fun sub systems for large combats. Bennys are a fun mechanic, and brought lots of synergy with other parts of the game. Thanks to my fellow players Andrew Watson, Jane Polwin, Massie Harper Slot 3 - Saturday Evening - Mothership - Another Bug Hunt - Andrew Batchelor with a wonderful body horror scenario, everyone played it very military to start, but ended up with a very cool and tense conclusion! Loads of fun and yes I definitely like how the danger laden simplicity of Mothership allowed for the story to develop, out of real jeopardy and tragedy. I might give this a go and run some myself, though im tempted to pick up the scenario, it was quite intriguing. Great group with Craig Nelson, Andrew Carey, Tom Paterson. Slot 4 - Sunday Morning : The Sprawl - Succession Fun little romp with a comedic ending, too cool for school shadowrunners doing an exciting infiltration and hacking job, only for 3 out of 4 of them showing they were incompetent bumbling fools when it came to fighting. Ending up with my character taken out by Panicking after he dropped a gas grenade on himself, the other 3 pcs failing and getting beaten up by the Chauffer. Loads of fun play and I really enjoyed embodying an incredibly geeky tech guy. Much thanks to Bruce Laing, Doerte Boehle, Andrew Batchelor Slot 5 - Sunday Evening: Cooperative Plated Ironsworn Starforged using the Oracles I facilitated this game where we used the methods that run a solo style game but cooperatively working together to create the story. Random factions provide a really great springboard once randomly rolled, leading to the Religious Schism and seeking a messiah precursor site which was an organic mind control machine. Some great conflicts and everyone brought the awesome, I will do this again! Thanks to my fellow GMs : Sue Savage, Harriet Lowe, Neil Hopkins, Jon Reed, Tom Patterson Overall a great con and well organised, props to everyone involved in that! I am exhausted but happy to have run games and create some great memories. WIll definitely try and make it next time, looking into running a Space theme hacked Rapscallions (Magpie Games) next time at this con. Space Pirates, or Space Dandy(2014).
