“Grifter” is the most evil word ever created. It once described someone who deliberately deceived people for money. Now it gets thrown at anyone who sells something expensive, builds an unconventional business, speaks confidently, or becomes more successful than the person criticizing them. You don’t understand their business? Grifter. You don’t like their personality? Grifter. You’re jealous of their success? Grifter. You would never pay their prices? Grifter. That isn’t an argument. It’s an emotion disguised as a moral judgment. If someone lied, identify the lie. If they committed fraud, show the evidence. If they failed to deliver what they promised, explain exactly what happened. Those are legitimate criticisms. But repeating a fashionable insult because other negative people use it creates moral confusion. It places honest entrepreneurs, imperfect marketers, controversial personalities, and actual fraudsters into the same category. Words should clarify reality—not replace the responsibility to think.
