Drumcree was never just about a road. The Orange Order saw tradition and freedom to march. Many Garvaghy Road residents saw an organisation historically associated with unionist power insisting on marching through a nationalist community that didn't want it there. The Orange Order is NOT the KKK, but imagine the argument that the KKK should be allowed through a predominantly Black neighbourhood because “we've always marched here.” It raises the real question behind Drumcree: When does one group's right to tradition become another community's obligation to accommodate it? #NorthernIreland #Drumcree #IrishHistory
