Scorpio is a sign of power, arising from its close connection to the cycles of birth and death, to that which is most real, beneath the civilised surface. Neither the Moon nor Venus, the two feminine planets, are comfortable being in this sign, which is a strange thing when you think about it. Venus today is both challenged and comforted by the Moon in its favourite sign of Taurus. Venus in Scorpio is the High Priestess, the intuitive guide to the depths of the psyche. Cassandra is a good figure for this placement. She had the gift of prophecy, but the curse that she would never be believed. It was a male god, Apollo, who endowed her with the both the gift and the curse, for refusing to sleep with him. Apollo is a god of male rationality, and therein perhaps lies the difficulty of Venus in Scorpio. Males are often constitutionally incapable of listening to feminine wisdom, and it's biology not upbringing, yet they are compelled by the mystery of the place it comes from, and they will do anything to possess her. So the challenge of Venus in Scorpio today is firstly to listen to your inner knowing, and resist the perennial notion that it should have a rational justification to be valid; and secondly to use your wiles to get others to listen, for you have judgement of character, and you know when and how to go about things, and the sense of the wider picture. It does not give the obvious power in the world that men have, for this kind of power is in their nature, and this is part of the challenge of Venus in Scorpio. The answer is not to compete with men on their own terms, as women are exhorted to these days, for then you forget the deep powers of Scorpio, that are so necessary for the world to thrive and be well. You forget who you are. No, the world needs your inner knowing, and the price is Pluto's Helmet of Invisibility. Venus is how we value ourselves, and Mars has the obvious route to that in its worldly conquests. But the feminine has to value itself on its own terms, she has to find it for herself, and that is deeper and more enduring. When it is valued by others - and it needs to be - it will be a quieter recognition. It doesn't win Nobel Prizes. So plenty of gifts and challenges and considerations today, both political and personal, as Venus is activated by the Moon. Moon opposite Venus also gives a lovely sensitivity and adaptability, but the opposition also hints that others will take your good nature for granted. So make sure they say please and thank you!
