Connecting with people is about flow. You feel the energy of the conversation. You add to it. You bring up something you’re excited about, follow what they’re excited about, make a joke, and let yourselves laugh. When there’s a lull, you can lead it somewhere new. That’s what I mean by leading the flow. You’re present enough to notice what’s happening and expressive enough to keep bringing something real to it. I’m at my best socially when I stop judging every word and start enjoying the person in front of me. That’s when the energy gets good. That’s when we connect.
