You need to love something deeply. If you believe in God, but you feel completely disconnected from God, resentful toward God, indifferent to God, and spiritually numb, do not treat that like it is nothing. Fix the relationship. Pray. Reflect. Go back to church if that matters to you. Ask the hard questions. Rebuild the connection. And if you are genuinely atheist because you have thought through the philosophical arguments and do not believe in God, then fine—but you still need reverence for life. Love nature. Love existence. Love truth. Love people. Love being alive. The dangerous state is not simply “religious” or “nonreligious.” It is lukewarmness toward life itself. No awe. No gratitude. No devotion. No sense that anything matters deeply. That is spiritual emptiness. Whether your language is God, nature, existence, or life itself, find something worthy of your deepest gratitude and love. Do not sleepwalk through existence. Absolutely love being alive.
