I DON’T NEED A JOKE TO LAUGH. Most people think humor begins with words: someone tells a joke, something funny happens, and then you laugh. But humor begins as an internal state. It’s playfulness. Lightness. The ability to look at life from a different angle and feel the absurdity of it all. I can generate that state within myself. I can shift my attention, loosen my seriousness, remember something ridiculous, exaggerate a thought, and allow laughter to arise without waiting for the outside world to give me permission. That is the deeper power of the mind: you can intentionally cultivate an emotion instead of being completely dependent on circumstances to create it for you. Real humor isn’t only about perfectly constructed jokes. A technically brilliant joke delivered without playful energy can feel dead. Meanwhile, someone with genuine amusement can make an ordinary observation hilarious because everyone feels the emotion behind it. The words carry the idea. The person carries the feeling. I don’t have to wait for life to entertain me. I can bring the humor with me.
