IN SEARCH OF BALANCE AND EXCELLENCE Daily Astrology Sun 4th Oct Sun in Libra exactly opposite Saturn in Aries. Libra is the search for balance. Indigenous people see life in this way, in their case balance with the natural world, from which humans are not separate. Balance by definition requires a fulcrum, a centre. We find this centre in the process of finding balance. Astrology itself arose out of indigenous ways of thinking, in which the natural world is a symbolic expression of the inner world. Life is cyclic, not linear. There is nowhere to go, only the call to live in balance at every moment. Then we are fulfilled, life is simple and meaningful. The chart shows us the callings, the gods we are answerable to, in order to find the unique balance that is ours. Saturn in Aries, the call of the world, can eviscerate us with his demands for measurable achievement. At best he asks for competence and excellence. When we do that, we are living from our deepest centre. Saturn is retrograde, requiring thoughtfulness: are you demanding enough of yourself in developing your gifts, are you pursuing the excellence you are capable of? And if so, is it for the right reasons? Do you want to look good in the eyes of the world, or is it for its own sake, because you owe it to the god or goddess who has endowed you with your gifts? Aries gives the ability to fight for the excellence of which you are capable, Libra to do so for the right reasons.I have written a book, The Medicine Wheel, which is a Native American approach to this idea of balance.
