Extremists on both sides are the problem. Both sides motivate and empower these guys, treating them like they are pawns on a chessboard. Dem use the LGBTQ+ and minority crowd, the GOP uses the evangelicals, the soccer moms, and the uneducated/single men voters. I used to look at it as the lesser of 2 evils. I now look at it as which evil can I tolerate. I vote split ticket as an independent, so I vote for both. I don't believe in party-line voting just because family does it.
