Special Advisory 4 B : Victor (Goretti) is at peak intensity at landfall along the NW coastline of Cornwall, SW of Newquay, with current gusts approaching, if not slightly exceeding 105mph over open water. Wind gusts are likely to be higher in coves and valleys, possibly approaching 120mph. These conditions are expected to continue for the next few hours. Central pressure is likely around 968mb with a ship reporting near the storm centre reading 972mb and weather stations on land reading 971mb and still falling. Further north, in Wales, the precipitation is currently falling as freezing rain. Over time build-up of ice along power lines and on tree limbs can bring them down, causing a risk of serious injury. If you see ice building up along trees and power/phone lines, DO NOT WALK NEAR THEM. EXTREME DANGER TO LIFE IS POSSIBLE IN CORNWALL AND THE SCILLY ISLES. STAY INDOORS, DO NOT VENTURE OUTSIDE. KEEP AWAY FROM WINDOWS.
