I want a cultural shift. I want us to start telling each other the truth. Holding each other accountable. Coaching each other. Getting involved in each other’s lives instead of watching someone we care about keep making the same mistake while we politely say nothing. If I see you hiding behind an excuse, I’m going to say it. If you see me doing it, I want you to say it too. That might hurt our feelings. Good. We can survive hurt feelings. What we can’t keep doing is pretending that silence is kindness when the truth could help someone grow. If I tell you that you have blue hair and you don’t, you’ll know I’m wrong. But if I point to the thing you’ve been avoiding for years and you get angry, at least ask yourself why it hit so hard. Challenge me if I’m wrong. Tell me exactly where. But don’t expect me to withhold the truth just to keep the conversation comfortable. I want people around me who care enough to get involved. I’ll do the same for them.
