How did Trump and the Republicans pay for those tax cuts for the wealthy? By starving children! When the Republicans cut taxes for those already obscenely wealthy it blew a huge hole in the budget. It still takes ‘X’ amount of dollars to fund the government, but with fewer dollars coming in due to the tax cuts, the money has to be made up somewhere. Or maybe not. Maybe if expenses are reduced the government can function with fewer dollars. And where is it easiest to cut those dollars – the Social Safety net. And that is exactly what Trump and his Plutocrat coconspirators in congress did. They slashed veteran’s benefits, they saved hundreds of millions by shrinking Medicaid reimbursement to local hospitals and forcing them to close, they cut unemployment insurance, drastically reduced money to FEMA for disaster relief, drained funds to insure clean air and water, worked to destroy Medicare and Social Security, eliminated hundreds of thousands of civil service workers and FBI agents who protected us from foreign agents, poisoned food and drugs, Wall Street speculators and dishonest bankers, and… The list goes on and on. But of all the heartless and despicable things these monsters did nothing matches their virtual elimination of the Aid for dependent Children initiative. They would rather see poor children starve – the elderly and indigent – than curtail one millionaire from buying another Tesla or his third mansion. Children are going to bed hungry, their parents agonizing over their inability to provide because groceries are out of sight, gasoline becoming more and more unaffordable and housing further and further out of reach. Their conscience swathed in greenbacks they blithely ignore the murmur from the middle class ghettos – but it resounds, it resounds. It’s the Wild West. It’s just, ‘Give as many people as much money as possible,’ as you’re working to buy votes.” Alleging that she’s found “hundreds of thousands” of examples of fraud, Rollins continued, “We’ve moved almost six million people off of the SNAP program. Some of it’s welfare-to-work, some of it’s getting rid of illegals, and some of it is the fraud, but six million people out of 40-plus million. That’s a pretty good chunk, and I’m really proud of that work.” According to a recent report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, though, more than 1.2 million kids lost their SNAP benefits between July 2025 and 2026, with children making up 43% of the total drop in participants. As experts told PBS News, Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” which cut at least $1 trillion in federal spending from the nation’s social safety net, has been a major driver of the decline. The law expanded work requirements for adults on SNAP. It will also soon obligate states to shoulder a larger share of the program’s costs. “SNAP is not, despite the name, supplemental,” Priya Fielding-Singh, the director of policy and programs at George Washington University’s Global Food Institute, told PBS. “SNAP is essential. SNAP is critical. SNAP is how families feed their kids enough food.” She also added, “For kids to lose that benefit is really devastating.”
