Bloomberg spending $80 million to help Democrats in the midterms By David Wright. Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire former mayor of New York City, is spending about $80 million between September and Election Day to support Democrats in the midterms, his team said, providing a significant boost to the party in the closing stretch of the campaign season. “Mike is an is an old-fashioned believer in our system of checks and balances, and believes that our government works better when all voices are participating,” Howard Wolfson, Bloomberg’s longtime political adviser, told CNN. “He has a a set of causes and issues that he believes in and has worked to advance, and is optimistic that election day will be a good one for Democrats.” The spending plans were first reported by The New York Times. Asked what kind of impact Bloomberg hoped his contributions would have in the midterms’ final stretch, Wolfson commented that “money is not determinative, but it is helpful.” He noted that “Republicans have a significant monetary advantage,” but that Bloomberg is “glad to be able to do his part. He obviously is a person of significant means and is in a position to be helpful in this way.” Bloomberg’s contributions include $50 million earmarked for the battle for the House, with $24 million coming through Everytown for Gun Safety, the advocacy group he co-founded over a decade ago, and another $16 million going to House Majority PAC, Democrats’ principal super PAC focused on House races. Some evidence of Bloomberg’s escalating activity in the 2026 midterms came in early October, when Everytown and HMP announced plans for a joint $10 million advertising campaign targeting key battleground races. More details on Bloomberg’s specific contributions will be laid out in FEC filings this week. Source: CNN.
