LOVE MAKES FOOLS OF US ALL Daily Astrology Sat 24th Oct. Sun conjunct retrograde Venus in Scorpio. The power of Venus to look backwards into its own past and depths is strengthened by the Sun. The Sun is too bright to look at directly. Are you able to look directly at your own foolishness in love? That person you mooned over, who you thought was the bees knees, such an incredible person? Really they were ordinary, like absolutely everyone else, subject to the same desires and self-centredness and biases and wrong-headedness. Venus is about to move back into idealistic Libra, but it can do so with the realism of Scorpio. We are not talking about excruciating and humiliating admissions to yourself. Scorpio is straightforward about its idiocies and even its moral transgressions. It doesn't spend the rest of its life squirming and beating itself up about what it did in the past. And in that lies wisdom, it means it can learn from the past. "I did that, and I did it for such and such a reason." What matters to Scorpio is not some egotistical notion of having 'high standards' but being a real ordinary human who is subject to all the usual venalities. The love journey is where we all make fools of ourselves, while the act of sex itself is thoroughly undignified, at least from a Libran point of view. But Scorpio is comfortable with the animal. It is what it is, and it yields to the fierceness and immersion, the shapeshifting, of sexual passion. Venus in Scorpio longs to merge, to surrender the everyday self in magical union with the other. But it also knows the pitfalls, that it can be the wrong kind of obliteration of self. Venus in Scorpio at its best is always self-possessed in relation to the other. It may keep you single for many years in order that you can find that self-possession, which is a deep thing. The Emperor and Empress in the Tarot. So that is how to use today's aspect. Look back to where Love has unmanned you, and learn from it. Always keep a hold on who you are while you play the game of Love. Like Dante, who declined to lose himself to Beatrice, and used the power of his Love to write the Divine Comedy. On the other hand, if you are a mother, then you do not hold on to who you were. You lose yourself entirely in the Love that reshapes who you are.
