~ The irrelevance A phantom economy Unwillingly cut ~ The three lines enact the very severance they describe — sparse, isolated, stripped of connective tissue, much like an economy forcibly decoupled from its global networks. "𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦" opens not with crisis or collapse, but with something quieter and more corrosive: meaninglessness. In economic terms, this is the cruelest outcome of forced decoupling. A nation that was once the architect of the global financial order — the dollar as reserve currency, Wall Street setting the tempo for markets from Tokyo to Frankfurt — suddenly finds itself peripheral. Not destroyed, but 𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘥. Irrelevance is the fate of the amputated limb, not the body that removed it. Supply chains reroute around it. Trade partnerships calcify elsewhere. The world does not mourn; it simply adjusts. "𝘈 𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘮 𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘺" is the haiku's surgical center. The phantom limb phenomenon is neurologically precise: the brain continues sending signals to a limb that no longer exists, generating sensation — sometimes agony — in empty space. Applied here, it captures an economy still firing on old muscle memory: consumers expecting purchasing power that has evaporated, workers trained for industries that have been offshored or sanctioned out of relevance, institutions maintaining the 𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘴 of global capitalism — the Fed meetings, the GDP reports — while the actual connective tissue to global markets has been severed. The economy 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘴 existence while functionally hollowed. "𝘜𝘯𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘶𝘵" is where the poem becomes political indictment. The passive construction is deliberate and damning — no subject, no named agent, only the violence and its victim. The people did not choose this amputation. It was performed 𝘶𝘱𝘰𝘯 them by ideological surgeons who confused isolation with sovereignty. The pain is real. The limb is gone. And the cruelest part of phantom pain is that no medicine exists for a wound the body refuses to believe has happened. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To support me, visit: https://tinyurl.com/andy-rukes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
