Why are we so risk-averse about AI? Because society has become too comfortable. Life has become so safe, predictable, and convenient that people now treat uncertainty itself as a threat. We’ve become terrified of anything powerful enough to disrupt the world we already know. People imagine every possible AI disaster while barely considering the extraordinary upside: breakthroughs in medicine, personalized education, greater productivity, scientific discovery, and access to knowledge for everyone. Yes, AI has risks. Every transformative technology does. But a society that demands perfect safety before pursuing progress will eventually stop progressing. Fear makes people passive. Comfort makes people lazy. Neither should determine humanity’s future. Manage the risks intelligently—but have the courage to move forward. The greatest danger may not be that AI changes the world. It may be that we become too fearful to build a better one.
