We don't choose our beliefs: our emotions do that for us, largely based on temperament and on a sense of belonging, of fitting in with those around us. That is why rational discussion is such a rare thing: it requires a lot of integrity to untangle what we want to believe from a cool consideration of the evidence. This is where Uranus in Gemini, activated by today's Moon, comes in. He is the disruptor of comfortable herd beliefs, and in Gemini reveals the multiplicity of stories than we can tell ourselves. His shadow here is postmodernism, the idea that there is no objective truth and all viewpoints, all stories are equally valid. To deal with the shadow, you go to the opposite sign of Sagittarius, a sign that values the sacred. The sacred is an objective need of the human psyche, and the great myths of the world reflect that. If you are an astrologer, the ancient Greek gods and goddesses carry the sacred for you. And maybe other stories too. The scientific stories do not carry the sacred, they tend to deny its possibility. So dwell today in those sacred stories that speak to you. They carry deep truths in a way that scientific stories cannot. They will make you happy (the Moon is emotional needs.) They will give you a metaphysical backbone, and a basis for the rest of your beliefs. All traditional societies have this sacred Sagittarian core. We are probably the first in history not to, and many of our 'progressive' beliefs are a poor substitute for a genuine sense of life itself as sacred. Disruptor Uranus gives the ability to step outside the herd, to wake up to your own blindness, and to live with the judgements that others may throw at you. In the context of the modern West, Uranus allows you to think that maybe humans of the past weren't so primitive and that traditional beliefs, rooted ultimately in the great mythologies, have something going for them.
