Special Advisory 9: Dakota (Austen)'s centre is now in the channel, southeast of Plymouth. The Isles of Scilly are reporting sustained winds of upwards of 35mph, gusting to 85mph, with stronger winds approaching. Gusts are expected to climb to around 95mph over the next couple of hours in exposed coastal areas across Cornwall and Devon. The strongest wind field covers much of the channel to the south and west of the centre of the storm, with a band of heavy precipitation currently laying across Jersey/Guernsey and extending northwards to the south coast of England. Wave heights exceeding 8m have been reported to the SW of the Isles of Scilly and as the winds strengthen, these are expected to climb to around 10m at peak. These strong winds and extreme wave heights mean that conditions are EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, and are a THREAT TO LIFE, especially in exposed coastal areas. STAY INDOORS. DO NOT VENTURE OUTSIDE. STAY AWAY FROM EXPOSED COASTLINES AND BODIES OF WATER. **DISCLAIMER MLCC IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH MET OFFICE OR ANY OFFICIAL METORLOGICAL ORGANISATION** INT . . . 85KTS . . . 90MPH
