I wrote this as a comment to a YouTube video...It says a lot about me and I figured I would share it here. Apologies, I am not a great writer, I am an engineer and I am rambling a bit. And this video isn't exactly recent. Atheist/agnostic (I don't really associate myself with any specific atheist groups, I went through the angry atheist phase, and I think for most of us it is just a phase as we grapple with the idea and the counter to a lot of culture, some people just get stuck there like a plateau. I think that is the problem many religious people have with atheists, are the loud obnoxious ones, most of us are chill and aren't really bothered by religion. It is a part of humanity and can be beautiful. It must be wonderful to feel that connection, but it's not real) who was never really very religious here...I went to church on and off for a while, I completed confirmation/catechism at a Lutheran church. Going to church was enjoyable, the community, the singing...but honestly, the Bible stories never really clicked with me or made me feel anything. They were interesting stories and that's that. For me...going to a museum is more of a spiritual experience than anything I have ever experienced going to a church. You say that these atheists have no history like these churches, but they do...we all do...we have all of human history, we have the entire history of the Cosmos! That is something every living being has, because we're all connected, we are part of the Cosmos. Many people call this Pantheism I would really suggest reading and listening to Carl Sagan and watching the original Cosmos series from 1980. There is a real deep spiritualism and wonder and satisfaction I get from that. I guess I personally don't feel the need to directly connect with people over that...it's a personal thing. Though there are experiences I have had with other...One of the most amazing things I have ever experienced was looking at Saturn through a friend's telescope with a group of people...we all had different but extremely powerful reaction to experiencing the beauty. And again, it's just another thing that touched my soul deeper than anything I ever experienced at a church and I don't see something I could see at a church that would touch me in the same way. And the really glorious thing is...it's all true! Connecting with the reality that we have discovered as humans, as a way the Cosmos can know itself.
