I recently recorded one of my favorite stories of all time, “Singing to the Sun,” and was touched to hear from the author that her goddaughter once commented when she was a child that she couldn’t find any stories about black princesses. She thought that meant that she couldn’t be a princess. “Singing to the Sun” was written to remedy the situation and open the opportunity for her goddaughter to be, if she chose, a black princess.
