2-3 Human Biology Human biological sexual characteristics do not fit neatly into the ‘binary’ classification, regardless whether we consider: ‘genitals’ or even our brains (Berkowitz 2023)*. According to Berkowitz (2023)*, human ‘genitals’ can be intermediate between a ‘penis’ & a ‘clitoris’. Berkowitz (ibid) also suggests that there is a variation in our chromosomes (e.g. of variations can be XX; XY; XXY; XO or X), in our ‘hormones’, in our ‘gonads’ (ovaries or testes), and also in our ‘genitals’. Berkowitz (ibid)*also suggests that these tendencies occur for a wide variety of reasons. Based on a combination of different sources of information cited in Berkowitz (ibid)* article there about 6.3 percent of the global population which have a nonbinary characteristics. Pursing this further, even the human ‘brain’ is also nonbinary. Human behavior is controlled by the brain. There some pieces of evidence which suggests that there are a few human ‘hypothalamic regions’ connected structures which is associated with sex difference on average, though the functions of these brain regions are still ‘unknown’ (Berkowitz 2022)**. Levay in a study while in UC San Diego (ibid)**found that the size of the hypothalamic regions in gay men is the same as in cis-women; and smaller than in cis-men. Then, another mounting evidence comes from another study (ibid)** which suggests that the size of the hypothalamic region or connected structures is connected to the person’s ‘felt gender’ and not the sex assigned at birth.
