I rarely write, its rare that something comes up that i feel is worth making the effort share with other. But today... today i do. Last night my Dad returned to the LR after having gone to bed. He told Mom that if felt hot & cold, weak & dizzy. She wrote me he was not feeling well, and I went over to that side of home. Tried checking his vitals, asking him questions about what was wrong... He was not very responsive at times, pulse was very hard to pick up. Our meters a gave heart rate in the 20s! When asked about calling 911, he didn't refuse, which meant he must be feeling really bad to not put up a fuss about call for help. First responders arrive, and get started checking him, then the paramedics. Still low heart rate, paramedics give him I think several doses of Atropine (?), and finally use pads to help his heart keep paces. Then they take him to the hospital, we get a couple of follow calls later, icu then cvicu. We leave out after second call, as quickly as we can, and get there. *sigh* They had like about 6 iv's going for him, to help his heart... A doctor later said that if given to a regular person their heart rate would be 200s, dad's was doing good to be in the 50s. We managed to get him to express his wishes for care to the attending, right now the focus is palliative care with meds. Tomorrow, after we all get some rest and be more prepared (how can we really be prepared) they'll take him off the meds leaving just the palliative care, and we will see. Not a happy post at all. Knew one day, his time would come. Been thinking a lot about it, him and mom. But was hoping for more time before then. Trying to help Mom, so many things will need to be done, if this is it.
