6-8 Stereotypes or ‘crimes in the name of nature’: 1- “An organism is solely male or female for life”. No that’s not true, the most common body form in plants and, may be, in half of the animals is to be ‘both’ male and female at the same or at different times during its lifetime. 2- “Males are bigger than females, on the average”. Not true - a lot of species, especially fish, the female is bigger than the male. 3- “Females, not males, give birth”. Not true - in many species, the female “deposits” the eggs in the “pouch” of a male to “incubates” them until birth. In many species also the male, not the female, “tend” the nest. 4- “Males have XY chromosomes and females have XX chromosomes”. Not true at all - as we mentioned earlier in the case of birds, including chickens, the “reverse” is true. In many other animal species there also no difference between males and females chromosomes.
