IF you are opposed to war with Iran, call your Senators and House reps. today before it escalates. Dear Senator Durbin, What is going on? Does the Constitution mean nothing to Americans now? Did the millions of American soldiers who died fighting for democracy serve for nothing? Why is this disaster of a government allowed to get away with this? War with Iran just because Trump says so? In the U.S., the Constitution grants Congress the sole power to declare war. This authority is outlined in Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 of the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. has engaged in numerous military actions without a formal declaration of war, often relying on "Authorizations for Use of Military Force" passed by Congress, or presidential claims of executive authority to protect U.S. interests or respond to attacks. The War Powers Resolution of 1973 was passed to try and reassert Congress's role in authorizing military force, requiring the President to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing troops to hostilities and limiting deployments without congressional authorization. We do not need another war in the Middle East or anywhere else. Is this yet another “distraction” by Trump to keep in the headlines of every media while the Reconciliation Act is forced upon us. Where is our, We, the People, representation in opposition to this latest fiasco caused by Donald Trump? How much more do you think your constituents are going to put up with before a real revolution begins?
