Day 2: Round 9: I am against an Izzet Lessons but without Talent/Monument. In game 1 my card flow never stops and my opponent can't keep up with me. In game 2 my opponent resolves Ral and I lose. Game 3 I resolve Ral first but my opponent plays 2nd Gran-Gran plus Ral. I don't find an out to second Gran-Gran and he bounces Ral and completely out tempos me. Lose 1-2 I am now at 6-3 Round 10: I am against Mono-White. Game 1 I am stuck on 2 Islands in my top 15. Game 2 Cosmogrand Zenith goes unchecked and I lose the game. This round was rough I did not really get to play Magic. Lose 0-2 I am now at 6-4 Round 11: I am against Dimir Mid Game 1 on turn 3 I have 4 Otters on board and a plotted Slickshot and I still lose this game because I draw 3 lands in a row. Game 2 my opponent is stuck at 3 lands and I outgrind him with Steaming Sauna and my Crabs. Game 3 is a super close game where I have Steaming Sauna open for several turns but at some point I draw a lot of air and my oppo manages to stick a Kaito and I lose. Lose 1-2 I am now at 6-5 Round 12: I am against Spelemental. Game 1 I mull to 5 and quickly lose. Game 2 my opponent has everything. Pyroclasm for my two Otters, Stroke for my Crab and Bounce with his 1 mana for my lethal 4/4 Otter token. Lose 0-2 I am now at 6-6 Round 13: I get the day 2 bye and it sucks. I am pretty sad but still want to play my last round because even in losing there is learning to be done and I am pretty mentally resilient. Win bye I am now at 7-6 Round 14: Last Round I am against Mono-Red. I never played against Mono-Red and it is probably not a very good matchup but it is also a very bad deck with very bad cards so I am confident I can win. Game 1 he doesn't play on turn 1 and I beat him down forcing horrible blocks even though I am stuck on 2 lands for the whole game. Game 2 he manages to stick 2 Howlsquad Heavy and I lose. Game 3 on turn 3 I play Drake Hatcher and he Sear it end of turn. I Snare his Sear and then he plays Hellkite on turn 3. At this moment I am pretty sure I won the game. On turn 4 I shock Multiversal Passage on green and play Grove's Bounty, Elusive Otter adventure spell on my Drake Hatcher. It becomes giant and out of reach of all his removal spells making me Drake token every turn. I win 2 turns later because my opponent can't answer it. First win of day 2 still better than none. Win 2-1 I am now at 8-6 Not very satisfied with my day 2. I felt like I made small mistakes in some matches that cost me games and there were 2 matches where I just didn't get to play Magic. But it is what it is Magic is hard and I will come back stronger next time. Regarding my list I think I would have liked to play 2 or 3 different cards. If I had been able to resubmit I probably would have done: –1 Secret Identity main, +1 Crab main –1 Crab side, +1 Fire Magic side –1 Sear side, +1 Roaring Furnace side The second Secret Identity is kind of whatever and the first Crab in the main is good while also freeing up a sideboard slot. Fire Magic was really good in open decklist and it cost me a lot against Izzet Lessons (no Artist/Monument) and Dimir Mid which could go wide without fearing punishment. Furnace is more for the Mono‑White, Dimir Mid, and mirror matchups. The card really impressed me in those MU with more testing I think I would have played 2. I'm still pretty happy with my tournament overall even though I would've liked to finish better. My gameplay wasn't always up to par either so I'm not going to complain. I'm also very happy with my deck choice. I think it's the best deck I could have played. It was really at that perfect intersection between “a deck I'm super comfortable with” and “a very strong deck.” Finally I was pretty happy with the bootcamp and the RC. It allowed me to meet or get to know better some super cool people and I had a lot of fun doing the thing I love most in the world: playing Magic.
