We’ve normalized negative self-talk because so many people experience it. But why should that be normal? Why should you wake up with a voice in your head criticizing you before the day has even started? Why should one awkward conversation turn into hours of telling yourself you’re not good enough? Why should you have to fight yourself every time you try to grow? You may have inherited that voice from your parents. Maybe it came from school, the people around you, or years of absorbing what society says you’re supposed to be. Wherever it came from, you don’t have to keep it. Listen to what’s happening in your mind. If you make a mistake, you can see it clearly and correct it. You don’t need an inner voice that attacks you to hold yourself accountable. That constant negative activity in your mind is not something to make peace with. It’s miserable. It steals energy you could use to live, connect, create, and improve your life. Catch it when it starts. Refuse to repeat it. Speak to yourself like someone whose life you’re responsible for helping. Just because you’ve lived with that voice for years doesn’t mean it belongs there.
