If you were born in America, you are an American according to the Constitution. In fewer than 30 days, Trump will undo that. Does that matter to you? It does to me, and my wife is 80 years old, so it's not about our future children. Maybe great-grandchildren 🙂. So I'm fighting against it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Attorney General, Donald Trump has launched a full-blown constitutional crisis, and the Supreme Court has now made it worse. In a 6-3 decision, the Court didn't say Trump's executive order to end birthright citizenship is legal, but it did strip federal judges of the power to block it nationwide while the case works its way through the courts. The Constitution was written to resist this kind of authoritarian overreach. You haven't yet, but I urge you to sue in court and stop this outrage. There are fewer than 30 days left before it goes into effect. Please do it today. That means Trump's executive order will stay on hold thanks to the lower court injunctions in the 22 states that sued to block it, but it will go into effect in the other 28 states unless they also sue in the next 30 days. This is an emergency. Trump's order would strip citizenship from babies born on U.S. soil whose parents are undocumented or on temporary visas. It guts the 14th Amendment and tramples over 125 years of settled law. The 14th Amendment is clear: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States… are citizens of the United States.” But Trump’s executive order ignores the Constitution, and this ruling could create a patchwork of citizenship standards across the country. That means chaos for families, hospitals, and state agencies. Parents could leave a maternity ward with a baby who is a citizen in Colorado but not in Missouri. A child could lose access to health care, schooling, and legal protections, all based on what side of a state line they were born on. Let’s be blunt about Trump’s endgame: This administration wants a legal loophole to pursue even more mass deportations. A permanent class of Americans without rights. A wedge to divide states, families, and the country itself. Respectfully, David and Joan Piekarczyk
