With 80 years behind me, I’d wager that most of our elected officials are familiar with the words I’m about to reference. I first heard them some 60 years ago, back when the country was starting to shift, and I, like many, believed in our president at the time—John F. Kennedy. But today, too many representatives are standing in the doorway and blocking the halls of our democracy. Yes, the times are a-changin’—but not in a good direction. Every elected official takes an oath to defend and uphold the Constitution. If they can't fulfill that duty, they shouldn't have taken the oath in the first place. When a representative places personal ambition or loyalty to a single individual above the welfare of the nation, they must be held accountable. This is the crossroads we now face: an oath not to country, but to Donald J. Trump. An oath of fealty that has no place in our democracy. We cannot, as Americans, allow that to stand. King George is long gone. Are we really going to let King Trump take his place?
