Dear group members, It requires our action...............call or email your Senators. Dear Senator Duckworth, Congress must take action as soon as possible to ensure our military cannot be misused as a domestic police force. We need to close loopholes in the Posse Comitatus Act which could be abused by our power-hungry president. Please support reforms including transferring control of the D.C. National Guard from the president to the city’s mayor; clarifying that governors may not deploy National Guard units into other states or territories without those jurisdictions’ consent; and ensuring in cases where control of the National Guard is transferred to a president that the president is still bound to the general legal rule that federal troops are not to be deployed as a domestic police force. It's been a principle of our history that the military should not be used against our own people. That’s helped preserve our democracy and keep us safe for two and a half centuries.
