“Democrats are still short of a veto-proof majority, so Schumer is daring Trump to use his veto and pay the price. Overriding a veto requires two-thirds of both chambers, or 290 House seats and 67 Senate seats, which means Trump can still block Democratic bills on his own. Schumer acknowledged that Thursday but warned that if Trump spends the next two years vetoing “commonsense legislation,” Tuesday’s “absolute Republican catastrophe” will “look like a good day” compared to 2028. He said Democrats will push to end the Iran war, stop Trump’s tariffs, ban stock trading by members of Congress and the president, and protect families from higher utility bills tied to data centers. Schumer is already planning a “durable majority,” naming Iowa, Kansas and the Carolinas as 2028 targets. In Iowa, Sen. Chuck Grassley would be 95 at the next election and hasn’t decided whether to run.” From Aaron Parnas newsletter
