This was a great work of art, yes it was absolutely horrifying at times but it blends with the lore so well and the novella just makes it all the more better. Songs like Pest and PLAY DEAD! PLAY DEAD! go insanely hard and then the discomfort creeps up slowly from track 3 to 6. Track 7, Princess Cuckoo is where the discomfort hits you like a truck. Vylet's vocals are really powerful but it also made me feel fairly concerned. The song talks about sensitive topics such as rape and that combine with the vocals make it all the more concerning but it doesn't beat track 8, Sludge. It's also the longest track in the album, being 22 minutes long. This is a track that i still cant find words to explain other than nightmarish. The topics spoken really emphasize the warning that's given in the novella about parental guidance for those under 18. The album gets a lot more tamer near the end with tracks like Rest Now Little Wolf being really comforting. more info and novella here: https://www.vyletpony.com/monarch good tracks : Pest, PLAY DEAD! PLAY DEAD! (fave track), Survivors Guilt,Huntress, Rest Now Little Wolf. alright tracks (not bad just either above average or heavily discomforting in the context of this album): The Wallflower Equation, Princess Cuckoo, Sludge, Revenge Fantasy If i didn't mention the track then its prob just an instrumental. Overall, this album is beautifully terrifying. 8.5/10, AOTY 2024.
