The Real Mole People of Orpasa 1: Orpasa is the oldest city in the world. The legend of Orpasa is that the city used to be the whole world, or rather that in the beginning there was Orpasa and the world formed around it. As Orpasa grew, the rest of the world outside expanded to carry its weight. The city grew larger and larger, the world outside became broader and wider until it folded in on itself. For the people of Orpasa, this is why the world is round. It has to be round, because otherwise the world could not carry Orpasa. And because the world carries Orpasa, the world must be round. The city plunges itself deep into the heart of the red earth. Past the iron silt and beyond the black stone, the city of Orpasa churns and burns. It boils time to paste at its dark core, and more city erupts from its veins. Always climbing higher and reaching deeper, the city of Oprasa is the oldest in the world.
