We're talking about nearly 59 million acres of national forest, land protected and kept in pristine condition specifically because no roads have been carved through them. Alaska's Tongass National Forest is the largest temperate rainforest in the world, home to ancient trees even older than I am, and salmon runs that sustain entire ecosystems. Or there’s Colorado's White River National Forest, a source of headwaters for the drinking water millions of people downstream depend on every day. These places remind us of the vastness and beauty of life on Earth, of which we humans are just a part. They also filter water, shelter wildlife, and offer millions of enthusiasts places to hike, hunt, fish, and breathe fresh air. Trump wants to take all that away from you. Public comments are open through September 21. The protections are still in place for now, but if public support is not strong enough, the administration will succeed in its efforts to remove them.
