“Democrats Demand Trump Preserve His Grok Chats After Reports He Consulted Elon Musk’s AI Before Attacking Venezuela” “The top Democrats on the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees are demanding that Trump preserve every conversation he’s had with AI chatbots, including Elon Musk’s Grok. In a letter obtained by POLITICO, Reps. Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Robert Garcia of California asked the White House to save “any prompts” Trump submitted to chatbots like Grok, ChatGPT, and Claude while carrying out his official duties, along with the responses. They also requested a closed-door briefing by 5 p.m. on Nov. 11 on Trump’s use of AI and how the White House preserves those records. The lawmakers argue that AI prompts and responses count as presidential records under the Presidential Records Act and must legally be saved. Raskin and Garcia are expected to chair the Judiciary and Oversight Committees if Democrats win the House on Tuesday, making the letter a preview of the investigations to come. A White House official responded only that “the White House preserves all required records in accordance with the law.” The demand follows reporting that Trump asked Grok how Venezuelans would react to Nicolás Maduro’s capture, weeks before ordering the military to attack Venezuela without congressional approval. According to the Democrats, Trump spent hours talking to Grok during an Oval Office meeting with Musk in December 2025. Weeks later, he ordered the U.S. military to strike Venezuela and capture Maduro, and after Venezuelans in the U.S. celebrated, Trump reportedly “came away thinking Grok was ingenious.” The lawmakers called it “deeply troubling” that Trump “consulted Grok, but not Congress” before a military operation, bypassing Congress’s constitutional power to declare war. Futurism reports the Jan. 3 attack on Caracas killed 100 people, and an AI-generated video purporting to show Venezuelans celebrating Maduro’s capture racked up more than 5 million views. Democrats warn that relying on Musk’s chatbot puts national security at risk and gives an unelected billionaire influence over U.S. policy. “If the American President is relying on the policy advice of a Musk-designed, Hitler-friendly chatbot with a predilection for child pornography in order to carry out his official duties, Americans have a right to know,” Raskin and Garcia wrote, referencing past scandals over Grok’s output. “If the United States military killed dozens of innocent schoolchildren based on the faulty advice of an AI chatbot, we have a right to know that too.” They pointed to a recent incident in which a chatbot generated a faulty intelligence report that nearly sparked a military confrontation between the U.S. and China. They also warned that White House prompts may be stored on the servers of private companies with major business interests abroad, exposing the country to “malign influence from unknown and unaccountable third parties.” And they noted that Musk has openly tinkered with Grok’s algorithm, saying the chatbot is “highly manipulable and demonstrably error-prone.”. from Aaron Parnas newsletter.
