@jamesgunn.bsky.social This is my first post on here in a while, and I wanted to say that I don't think I'd still be here without Superman. My mom, the last person in my family, died on July 2nd. For a long time, I was deep into dark places. I didn't want to go on. One of the last things we did together was watch the trailers for #Superman, and she was excited to see it with me. I've been into Superman most of my adult life, and sharing stories of the character with her was one of our traditions. I saw it opening day, in Austin, at an Alamo Drafthouse. She had been gone a short while. I made it through until the scene in Smallville, with the Kents. I cried so much I became dehydrated. After that showing, I saw #Superman five more times in theaters. We don't get to choose how art impacts us. We don't get to say what pieces of media exist in our lifetimes. I know, for a certainty, that at the darkest time of my life, #Superman was there to show me that life wasn't over. That maybe the world could still be saved. I can't say thank you enough to the cast and crew of that film. Thank you for realizing a version of the character I didn't think anyone else understood. Thank you for making me look up in the sky once in a while, and still being here to do so.
