MOST PEOPLE DON’T WANT CLEAR GOALS People say they want success, but many refuse to define exactly what success means. Why? Because the moment your goal becomes clear, your failure becomes clear too. If you say, “I want to improve my life,” you can always convince yourself that you’re making progress. But if you say, “I will earn $100,000 by this date,” there is nowhere to hide. You either achieved it or you didn’t. Clear goals create clear measurements. Clear measurements create accountability. Accountability threatens the ego because it removes every excuse and exposes the truth. That is why people choose vague dreams: “I want to become healthier.” “I want more money.” “I want to build something meaningful.” “I want to become successful.” Those statements feel safe because they can never officially fail. But they can never create a clear victory either. When your goal is vague, your actions will be vague. You don’t know what must happen today. You don’t know whether your strategy is working. You don’t know when to adjust. You can remain busy for years without confronting the fact that you aren’t moving forward. A clear goal is terrifying because it gives you something definite to miss. But that is also its power. Once failure becomes visible, it becomes useful. You can study it. You can discover what went wrong. You can change your strategy, improve your skills, and take another shot. Missing a clear goal does not make you a failure. It gives you clear information. That is how growth works: Choose a precise target. Take a real shot. Measure the result. Learn from the miss. Correct your direction. Shoot again. People without clear goals can protect their self-image forever, but they also remain trapped forever. The person willing to define success is also willing to risk defining failure. That person will sometimes miss. That person may look foolish. That person will have nowhere to hide. But that person is also the only one who can clearly win.
