First, bribery to vote, now this: At the Republican midterm convention in Dallas on Thursday, September 10, 2026, President Donald Trump closed out the event by asking the audience to raise their right hands and repeat a pledge-style "oath" after him. AP News The pledge he had the crowd repeat was: "I pledge to the greatest president in the history of the United States, that loves us so much he can't even breathe, that I will go out with my family, my friends. I'll do it anyway. I don't care if I'm registered or not. I'm going to try and cheat like hell, like they do." AP News He continued the repeat-after-me prompt by asking supporters to swear that they would ensure their friends and family turned out to vote on November 3, concluding the pledge with, "So help me God." AP News The statement sparked significant online backlash and media attention, with critics targeting his pledge of allegiance to himself and the comment about "cheating like hell," while supporters viewed the line as trademark political hyperbole meant to energize turn-out for the midterms.
