Email or call your Senators! Dear Senator Durbin, It seems like every week, there is an important issue to ask for your help with. This week is no different. Soon, the Senate votes will be cast on the nomination of Emil Bove to become a Federal Judge. I believe this is only step one of a larger plan. I am sure you know that Justices Thomas, Alito, and possibly Sotomayor(for health reasons) are considering retirement. This could leave 3 vacancies that, no doubt, Trump will gladly fill with more of his candidates. I do not doubt that Bove, being a Federal Judge, would be his nominee. As you know, the requirements to become a Supreme Court Justice in the United States are surprisingly minimal according to the Constitution. In fact, the U.S. Constitution does not specify any formal qualifications such as age, education, profession, or native-born citizenship. Upholding our Constitution, integrity, and the laws of our land should be requirements. Alas, Emil Bove does none of those three. Emil Bove openly backed defying court orders to speed up the deportation machine. And somehow that’s just the beginning of why Bove is unfit: Emil Bove ordered the dismissal of corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. The judge who dismissed the case did so “with prejudice” to free Adams from what the judge described as a “bargain” with the Trump administration—that, in exchange for dismissal of the charges against him, Adams would participate in aggressive immigration enforcement in New York City. Emil Bove ordered the firing of some two dozen prosecutors involved in the Jan. 6 criminal cases. Emil Bove ordered the firing of FBI agents who had worked on the Jan. 6 cases. I urge you to do everything you can to prevent Bove's nomination. Respectfully. David Piekarczyk
