Sinners was released in April 2025, and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple came out in January 2026. In less than 12 months, Jack O'Connell has masterfully portrayed two of the finest villains of the 2020s. On the surface, Remmick ticks all the boxes that represent a classic vampire: monstrous, remorseless and relentless yet also cool, seductive and charismatic. He’s even a surprisingly proficient singer and dancer. What makes the character truly special, however, is that beneath this surface, is something far deeper and genuinely tragic. On the other hand (28 Years Later SPOILERS ahead) Sir Jimmy Crystal is a psychotic, manipulative and sadistic cult leader, who leads a band of murderous and seemingly brainwashed children. More terrifyingly, however, is the fact that he is based on one of Britain’s nastiest and vilest real life monsters (the clue is in the name). Two unforgettable performances by an exceptional actor. As over the moon as I am for Sinners’ record breaking Oscar nominations, I am BAFFLED that Jack O'Connell was overlooked.
