Maternal empathy is essential when caring for a vulnerable child. But it becomes destructive when applied indiscriminately to an entire society of adults. Children need protection, reassurance, and accommodation because they’re still developing. Adults also need compassion—but they need truth, responsibility, consequences, and challenges. When society treats every adult like a fragile child, empathy becomes infantilization. Standards disappear. Discomfort becomes oppression. Accountability becomes cruelty. A healthy society needs empathy and strength. Compassion should help people face reality—not protect them from it forever.
