#sealeychallenge Day 18 Oliver de la Paz, Diaspora Sonnets I know I am late to get on the train for this celebrated 2023 book, but it feels even more relevant today. The series of sonnets beat upon the reader like the stops on an interstate or the yellow lines in the center of the road passing by. Even the sonnets are seven couplets that rush on in rhythmic increments. No rest stop quatrains or peaceful blocks of 14 lines here, and the voltas are as gentle as the passage from one township to another. These are touching reminiscences of a father, grandmother, and mother and a heritage of movement, the laundromats and quarters, temporary quarter, and the west wind always moving on. I’m so pleased that I finally caught up with the peregrinations of this beautiful book. @thesealeychallenge
