I was wrong about social skills. I thought if I felt amazing, I would automatically be amazing socially. Get the mood right, feel absolute joy in my body, and the conversations would flow on their own. Then I went out and realized there are still skills I need to learn. How do you walk up to someone and create a connection? How do you lead a conversation, make someone laugh, speak boldly, and keep the energy moving when you’re not already in perfect flow? Feeling good helps, but it doesn’t teach you those skills automatically. And now I’m asking a bigger question: What if social skills are even more powerful than happiness? Because if you master social skills, you don’t have to wait until you feel amazing to live your life. You can be tired, nervous, or out of rhythm and still walk into a room and connect. You can create a moment with someone instead of waiting for the perfect mood to arrive. I still want absolute joy. But I’m realizing I can’t rely on happiness to do the work of skill. I want to learn how to connect so well that I can find the flow even when I don’t feel my best. What if that’s the next key? What if mastering social skills gives you a kind of freedom that happiness alone can’t?
