It's Time to Convene by June Gunter, TeachingHorse Founder & CEO I founded TeachingHorse for one reason. I was watching people with the character to lead say no to the job. I knew there was a better way. In the current political climate, I am seeing the same pattern of good people leaving leadership. After more than two decades with TeachingHorse, I know there is a better way of leading that works. We continue to offer people a way to lead through uncertainty, inspired by how horses lead their herds, that creates healthy, sustainable communities. You know what gives me hope? Our clients are booking learning experiences at a record pace. There are many brave people who have not been fooled into thinking that authoritarian and inhumane practices are the way to lead their organizations into the future. My message to all of the dedicated leaders who were removed from the roles they played in service to their country, its people and lands is this: I hope you rest, recover, and remember that you get to choose how you use your gifts going forward. The world still needs your light. I have been sitting with something difficult lately. As I have watched the consequences of our country’s political decisions take effect, it has become clear to me that another epidemic of isolation is on the horizon. During the pandemic, we were instructed to use social or physical distance to protect ourselves from disease, but the unintended consequences of these instructions led to an epidemic of isolation and loneliness that research clearly documents. Here’s the beautiful truth. We still have time for us to turn to one another and choose our way forward. As Margaret Mead reminded us, “Never doubt that a small group of people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Find your herd.
