Greetings fellow travelers and bookworms. Yog here to share a fantasy series that should be added to those TBR lists. The Runelords by David Farland. The series is one of my absolute favorites, but I don’t see many people talking about it and think that’s a shame. How I’d explain this series is that it’s like a bridge between Wheel of Time and Mistborn. The world building and magic system are in-depth and interesting and does most of the heavy lifting through its eight books. That’s not to say that the characters or story is bad though. Quite the opposite really, but you could discuss the magic system for hours. Other than your basic elemental magics, which this series does have, the main magic is endowments. Endowments are attributes taken from one person and given to another. For example if you get an endowment of sight you would be able to see twice as far, but the person who gave it to you would end up blind. If you get an endowment of brawn, you will be twice as strong, but the person that gave it to you would end up bedridden due to not having the strength to get out of bed. And so on. There are even endowments that are both beneficial and detrimental to the recipient like the Endowment of metabolism. It makes the person move twice as fast, but also ages them twice as fast, reducing their lifespan. It’s all bout give and take, and must be given willingly. That said there are people that use more dubious methods to receive them. The titles in this series are: Book One: The Sum of All Men Book Two: Brotherhood of the Wolf Book Three: Wizardborn Book Four: The Lair of Bones Book Five: Sons of the Oak Book Six: Worldbinder Book Seven: The Wyrmling Horde Book Eight: Chaosbound I give this series a thumbs up, I dig it. Would definitely recommend it if you are into fantasy
