A prominent Russian pro-Kremlin commentator has publicly acknowledged that Russia may soon be forced to end its war against Ukraine, contradicting official propaganda claims that Moscow can fight indefinitely. Maxim Kalashnikov, a well-known Z-blogger often described as an “angry patriot,” admitted on his program that Russia’s military and economic resources are already severely strained. According to him, the narrative promoted by the Kremlin—that Russia is prepared for a long war lasting many years—is simply not true. “It’s clear that the Russian Federation, despite what propaganda says, cannot fight forever. We’re running out of steam, and this is obvious,” Kalashnikov stated. He also noted that Ukraine’s position has improved significantly due to sustained Western support. Kalashnikov highlighted recent developments in which US President Donald Trump reportedly helped arrange a financial framework that could see European countries contribute up to €90 billion in assistance to Kyiv, easing Ukraine’s funding challenges. Kalashnikov has previously warned that ending the war would be extremely painful for Russia. He argues that the invasion has pushed the country into a deep economic and demographic crisis, raising the risk of serious social unrest. In his assessment, Russia could even face a collapse similar to the dissolution of the Soviet Union if current trends continue.
