THE POWER OF TABOO Daily Astrology Tues 6th Oct. Mercury conjunct retrograde Venus in Scorpio. Scorpio is not a civilised sign. It stands for all that we leave out, all that we make unacceptable, to create an ordered society. It is something that has to happen. Today Venus is giving Mercury the ability to talk about these things fruitfully. A well-known astrologer recently spoke the N word as an example of a taboo. Even saying it was too much, and he was condemned and cancelled. He should have waited for this aspect in the sky! A healthy taboo proscribes an action that threatens the survival of the community. People are often not thoughtful, or they are venal, so you have to have a rule that threatens death or exile. If you are reading this, you probably have the capacity for stepping outside the rules and questioning and understanding. Which much of the astrology world recently showed that it does not! This is what Mercury-Venus is enabling. Begin with the Roman playwright Terence, who said, "I am human, and I think nothing human is alien to me." Are you at ease with your inner racist and gleeful concentration camp guard, or is it just 'bad' people who are like that? If you can admit to these things without condemning them - it is the acting on them that requires condemnation - then you can trust yourself, for they will not sneak in and get the better of you. But for people ruled purely by taboo, the monster will get the better of them when the rules change eg in war. So in straightforwardly owning that which is 'uncivilised', you become not a 'bad' human being but a complete human being, one that can be trusted. And the monster becomes something of a protector, a menacing quality that says don't mess with me.
